The surgeon plus entourage breezed in at around 2pm, and changed my dressing. I might have been dozing when they came in as I was a bit startled!
It was a case of lie down, old dressings off, swab the stiches, new gauze on, tape up and gone. All in the space of 3 minutes. I did not get a chance to ask the surgeon about weight on my foot, or anything else for that matter.
I took the opportunity to zimmer to the bathroom though. I was in such shock about the recent visit that I just got straight back into bed. Next time, I will sit in the chair, hopefully, under less traumatic circumstances!
Just another quick 15 minutes in the chair as the nurses changed my bed. I am going to try to force myself into the chair at least once every 3 hours. Just to get my legs and arms used to shifting my weight around. I am trying not to put any weight on my right leg, but I keep finding myself putting it down. I am sure no weight is going on it, but I will have to be careful of that. I shall ask the surgeon when I can start applying weight to my leg when I see him next.
Up this morning again, and another zimmer trip to the toilet. Then back to my chair for breakfast. I was in the chair for 40 minutes this morning, and before I got into bed again, I did a few exercises on my leg.
Nothing fancy, just simulating lifting my leg to go up stairs. Hard work, but it seemed to work ok. While I was in the chair, my leg was hurting a bit on the outside, so I rubbed it a bit, and it seemed to ease a bit. It might have been that pain yesterday. I shall see later when I zimmer about again.
No GP visit so far today. The assistant surgeon changed my dressings yesterday, and said he would change them today.
I was up and zimmered myself to the bathroom (most satisfying) at about 7:45 this morning. I then sat in my chair and had breakfast for the first time out of bed.
At 8:20, my knee was giving me a bit of an ache, so I got back into bed. Soon after, I was asaked to choose my lunch, so I went with Tuna Salad. Not too big, but very good.
Vivian the GP came round at 8:45, and said she was going to confirm with the surgeon about whether I still needed to be taking the oral anti-biotics.
Then it was back to “Dave Gorman’s Googlewhack Adventure” that Zac has lent me.
I sat in the chair by the bed for 20 minutes.
I sat in the chair by the bed for 10 minutes.
