Fracture Clinic

I did not go to work today, as I was going to the hospital. My check in time was 1:55pm, but Mum and Dad were busy this morning at the field, so I did not want them to come and fetch me from work.

I got to the hospital at 1:25pm, and sat in the waiting area. There were only 4 other patients in the room, and a couple of them were called through. There was an old lady who decided to move closer to the door where we had to go through. Of course, she sat near me. She started talking to me, and as I am not a rude person, I started talking to her. She told me the history of her knee replacement, how she had MRSI, how she had walked 1/2 mile to get there. As luck would have it, my name was then called, and I was asked to sit outside the X-Ray room. It was now only 1:35pm, so I was on track. I started moving my leg around for something to do, and realised that I was still wearing my ankle weights!

Some time later, I was asked to put on a gown, and remove my jeans in a side room, as my jeans had studs on them in the exact area where they needed to X-Ray me. In the room there was no chair, so the nurse had to bring in a wheelchair for me. I then went in to the X-Ray room, and had 3 taken. I took my X-Ray ticket, and went to wait in the Sub-Wait area for the Fracture Clinic proper.

I was finally called into the room to see the consultant. Mr. Shah was the guy who saw me when I first went to A&E nearly 6 weeks ago. He told me that the healing of the bone was progressing, and then called me through to look at the computer with the image on it. He showed me the X-Ray from when I first was in the UK, and then the one from today. There was a definite improvement, but he pointed out an area where he wanted some more bone to be deposited. He said that I should now start putting some weight on my leg, but not too much, as he wants to encourage the bone growth, but not damage the new bone that has been laid down.

I have to go back in 6 weeks for another check, when, hopefully, I will be given the all clear to start putting alot more weight on my leg. I did not tell him that I had been putting alot more weight on already. This morning I put 6 stone (38kg) on it with no problem. I shall have to spend the next 6 weeks building up my movement and my muscles in preparation for walking again. Mr. Shah said I could walk on my leg, but using the crutches so that not too much weight was on my leg. I gave my form to the receptionist, and called Mum to pick me up. It was 3:06pm, so not too long waiting around.

We went to pick up Dad from the field, and I took some pictures of the Tractor Shed, and the tractors. Enjoy them below:-
