Visitors and some bad news

June 3rd, 2009 No comments

Ma Yan arrived from work at about 5:40pm.  Not long after, Nigel turned up after having cycled in from his apartment.  I was on the phone with International SOS when he arrived, (more of which later).  Then my tuna salad arrived.  Then Jamo and Tracey appeared.  Bit of a roomful!

My call was not a particularly good one.  International SOS will deliver me to Warwick Hospital A&E, so that I can be seen by an Orthopedic Surgeon.  Based on his thoughts on my mobility, I might not be allowed to go to Mum and Dad’s.  I am not going to be very happy after travelling from Shanghai and then going straight to the hospital.  As it is A&E, and not an appointment, I will have to wait until a surgeon is available.  Friday is looking like being a very long day.

Stitches are gone!

June 3rd, 2009 2 comments

At 5pm, Dr. Lee’s young assistant arrived, and whipped out the stitches.  I thought he was just cutting them, and was going to go back and drag them out.  But he said “All done”, and the stitches were there in a pile. No pain at all! I did not count them, I shall wait until later for that.

He said that I will need to keep the dressing on them for 3 days, and if the drain hole dressing gets too wet, then that should be changed.  I am not sure if it has made any difference to my movement, but I zimmered to the toilet in celebration anyway.

Still waiting

June 3rd, 2009 1 comment

The flight nurse came in again today.  It seems like she will be the one to accompany me all the way to Mum and Dad’s in Warwick.  She was just checking on how mobile I was, and basically giving me a final check to say that she thought I was ok to fly.

We also discussed arrangements for tomorrow.  The final decision is as follows:-

S-Day

June 3rd, 2009 No comments

Well, after a fairly good nights sleep, I was awake at 6:30am.  After doing some exercises, I got up at 7 and zimmered to the bathroom.  Still nice to not p**s in a bottle.  I had a shave, (last one here), and then went to the chair.  I caught them out today, as they brought breakfast at 7:40am, so I managed to have breakfast out of bed.  After eating my toast and jam, I read some more of “Sigh for a Merlin”.  Dad will like some of the chapter names.  One of which is – “A Tomtit in the garden”.

Nothing to see here, move on.

I did a few more trips to the chair for a read, and a bit of computer time.  I zimmered about a bit as well, and on one of my zimms I spoke to the mother of the lad in the next bed.  It turns out that she knows Renney!  It is a small expat world out here. (That is for you Mum)

Another day in paradise…

June 2nd, 2009 1 comment

Not a good sleep again.  Hopefully, I will find a better position tonight.

Breakfast was at 7:30am this morning, and it caught me out!  I was going to have breakfast in my chair, but I had not even started to get up.  I had breakfast, and then zimmered to the loo.  I then opened the curtains, put the fan on and sat in the chair for a while and read some more.  After about 30 minutes, I got back into bed and read my emails.  Jamo is back on form, as I had 7 funny emails from him.

Possible Discharge Date…

June 1st, 2009 No comments

The insurance company’s agent, International SOS have just been on the phone with me.  They have been told I shall be discharged on Wednesday after I have my stitches taken out!!  I have discussed this at length with the ISOS person, and I have said that I would rather remain in hospital for 24 hours after the stitches have been removed, just in case of any issues.

The logistical problems I can see are:-

1) I have to go to the visa office in person to retreive my passport.

2) Virgin flights to the UK leave Shanghai at 9:20am, so I have to be at the airport at 6:20am

3) I have no clothes here at the hospital to wear to be discharged.

If I am discharged on Thursday, I will need to go to the Visa office the same day to collect my passport, and then go on to Diamond Court to pack my things. I will then stay one night at Diamond Court, and get taken to Pudong Airport for my flight.

I have just spoken to one of the GP’s here, and she says that she is quite happy to say about having 24 hours observation after the stitches are removed.

So being discharged on Thursday, means arriving in Warwick on Friday afternoon / evening.

Children’s Day Part 2

June 1st, 2009 No comments

Bob arrived at 10am for a visit.  Whilst he was here, the surgeon assistant arrived to change my dressings.  Bob and I chatted with him, and he said that I need to come back here 4 weeks after the surgery for an X-Ray.  This is to see how the bone is healing.

I told him that I was going to be in England when then was, and he looked thoughtfully at me and said, “I think they can take X-Rays in England.”  I was very relieved to hear that!  He also confirmed about taking the stitches out on Wednesay.

Bob was saying that he was going to the Shangri La hotel for Sunday brunch this coming weekend, as it had been so good on a previous occasion.  Prawns as big as your hand, was one of the comments he made.

I zimmered about after lunch, and sat in the chair reading “Sigh for a Merlin” by Alex Henshaw, about his role during the war of being a Spitfire test pilot.  I have only just started it, but so far, so good.

I have skyped Hugh, Gina, Mum and Dad today, so everyone is fully up to date with all that is happening.  Tonight, I shall just relax and read some more, and maybe watch some tv online.

International Children’s Day

June 1st, 2009 No comments

Was woken early this morning by my leg being a bit sore.  I cannot seem to find a position that is comfortable for the whole night.

Ma Yan left for work at 6:45, she has stayed here over the weekend.  Making sure I do my exercises, and generally helping me out.
